Food Is Not Just Calories

How to be less hungry copy.png

When we’re trying to lose weight we tend to see food in terms of calories – How many calories does this have?  And will it make me fat?  How can I burn off the extra calories?  We need to stop that!

Yes food does provide calories – but calories are just a unit of measure of the energy in the food that we eat – much like inches or miles is a measure of distance.

The thing is not all calories are created equally and calories/energy are not the only thing we get from the food.

We eat not for just the enjoyment of it – because yes, we should enjoy our food! But we should also get:

1.    Fuel/energy: Yes, we do need the energy that  "calories” provide for our cells so that our body and brain can keep everything running properly but energy isn’t all that we get from food, we also get…

2.    Important building blocks: These are things like amino acids and essential fatty acids, which your body depends on to build and repair tissues and to help keep you strong and healthy.

3.    Information: These are the vitamins, minerals, pre/pro-biotics and cholesterol, etc., which all play such an important role in keeping your body running smoothly

Try to move away from that calorie focus and instead thing about how the food that you eat is actually nourishing your body!
