"Everything In Moderation..."
I would love to never hear the phrase “everything in moderation” again….
For a lot of us that doesn’t always work and it really isn’t that simple.
Everything in moderation was the motto I used that helped me gain over 50 lbs. I was the queen of justification and could come up with any reason to have whatever it was that I wanted.
The Fact is some of us just don’t moderate very well…
And to tell someone who has struggled with weight loss for years that they just need more moderation just isn’t very helpful… I notice this is often said by people that never had a weight issue to begin with so ya, for some people it works, but making that blanket statement for everyone is BS.
Especially if someone is dealing with food/sugar addictions, emotional eating, health issues, wonky hormones or food sensitivities. Where trying to moderate is easier said than done.
It also can make you feel like a failure if you just can’t do it. You start to feel like somethings wrong with you or that you're broken - because everyone else can do it, why can't i? But is everyone really doing it so successfully…??
What is moderation anyways? Who decides that? Is moderation 6 donuts or 3? Is it a certain amount? Having it at a certain time? Having it only on certain days? Daily? It's really open to interpretation. And for people like me - I will make my own interpretation fit whatever it is that I’m wanting in the moment.
I’d like to think I can have just one square of chocolate and be done, but soon I’m going back for just one more...then just one more again…
For me it's usually easier to just not even go down that road.
So what are your feelings on this? Is it easy to do the moderation thing or are you one that's just better off abstaining?
