Don't Count Yourself Out Before You Even Start!
I honestly thought I was going to starve…
Back around 2011 maybe early 2012 I found myself struggling to lose weight….again!
I had previously lost 50+ lbs and had managed to keep it off for a few years, but here I was gaining weight again. But the frustrating part was that I was still doing all those things that I had started doing to lose the weight the last time. I was still “eating clean” and exercising 2-2 ½ hours a day. I could not for the life of me figure out what was going on!
I started to feel like I was broken – maybe just doomed to be overweight….
I knew I couldn’t eat less (I already struggled with hypoglycemia) and there weren’t enough hours in the day to exercise more and actually do things like have a job or sleep.
A friend of mine had been “eating Paleo” for several years and had not only had a lot of success with weight loss but she had also gotten rid of some health issues. I was intrigued and started looking into it myself.
But giving up things like grains and beans??? What would I eat?? I was already a pretty picky eater, plus I usually had grains and/or beans at just about every meal.
I just didn’t think I could do it…I already wasn’t a big fan of elimination type diets, but I really wondered if I’d find enough to eat.
But after months of being frustrated with my ever-expanding waistline and having to go up another jeans size, I finally realized what do I have to lose if I just give it a try? If I was starving or didn’t like it I could just stop.
I decided to give it a month.
And you know what…I didn’t starve…far from it actually!
I actually found myself less hungry and the constant cravings that I was always trying to fight went away too…what??
What I learned was that when you eat in a way that keeps your blood sugar balanced and reduces inflammation your body is actually able to run much better.
By getting my blood sugar under control I was able to lose weight for the first time in my life without having to be hungry all the time! My cravings went away, I had much better energy and even my mood was better. Oh and no more hypos! That was awesome! If you’ve ever experience that anxious hangry feeling – you know its no fun!
By getting rid of the some of the foods that can cause inflammation I slept better, I was less bloated and puffy, the bone and joint pain that I blamed on “getting older” was gone. It was kinda crazy really! I don’t think I would’ve believed that that could happen if I hadn’t experienced it for myself – it just seemed to good to be true!
So the moral of this story – don’t count yourself out before you even try! You never know what might be possible for you if you get out of your own way and quit giving yourself excuses not to give it a go!
I’d love to hear from you! Have you ever talked yourself out of trying something you thought might be good for you?
