Feeling Overwhelmed Because You Recently Found Out That You’re Insulin Resistant or Prediabetic?

I understand how overwhelming it can feel when you’re told that you’re insulin resistant or prediabetic. You're likely feeling a mix of emotions – fear, anxiety, and maybe even a bit of denial. Questions like "What does this mean for my health?" and "Will I develop Type 2 Diabetes?" are probably swirling around in your head.

You're definitely not alone. I felt that way too.

The good news is that you have the power to take control of your health. While there's no magic pill, you can make significant improvements through a combination of lifestyle changes.

Here are a few things you can do to start your journey:

  • Don't Panic: It's easy to feel overwhelmed, but try to take a deep breath and remember that you have the power to make positive changes.

  • Educate Yourself: Learn as much as you can about insulin resistance. Understand how it affects your body and what you can do to improve your insulin sensitivity. I have several other blog posts here that can help as well.

  • Focus on Whole Foods: Start incorporating more whole, unprocessed foods into your diet. Focus on getting plenty of protein, non-starchy veggies and low-sugar fruits (like berries) and healthy fats. I have a blog post with some tips and ideas on how to make some low carb swaps here.

  • Prioritize Movement: Find ways to incorporate more physical activity into your daily routine. Even short walks can make a big difference. Walking after a meal can be especially helpful as it can help to lower your blood sugar.

  • Manage Stress: This is not always an easy one in this day and age but because stress can significantly impact your blood sugar levels it is important to find ways to try to manage how stress impacts your body - and that can be any stress physical and emotional. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as yoga, meditation, spending time in nature, or my personal favorite, taking a good kickboxing class and getting all that stress energy out ;P.

  • Seek Support: Connect with others who understand what you're going through. Join a support group or you’re welcome to come join us in our Facebook community.

Remember, small, consistent changes can make a big difference. Don't try to overhaul your entire lifestyle overnight. Start with small changes and gradually build from there.

You don't have to do this alone. If you're feeling overwhelmed, consider working with a health coach who specializes in insulin resistance. They can provide guidance and support to help you achieve your health goals.

This is just the beginning of your journey. You have the power to make positive changes and take back your health. If I can do it I know you can too. Take it one step at a time, don’t forget to celebrate your successes (this really is important!), and don't be afraid to ask for help along the way.
