What Is The Best Diet For Weight Loss?
I’m often asked, what is the best diet for weight loss...
I obviously talk a lot about the keto diet but does that necessarily mean that I think everybody needs to be keto? No, I actually don’t think there is any one diet that is right for everyone.
I do think that in today's carb-heavy world that most of us would benefit from lowering our carb intake...but not everyone needs to take it to keto levels to see results.
When trying to find the diet that's right for you, it ultimately comes down to finding the way to eat that doesn’t feel like a diet.
For me that is low carb. I absolutely love the food. I’m never hungry or feel deprived and I never feel like I’m on a diet. For me it feels really doable for the long term.
Sure, I’ve tweaked and adjusted along the way - as we all will need to. Our needs will always change as we age, as we become more or less active, hormones, stress sleep.
But now it's second-nature. I’m not constantly thinking about what to eat, is it allowed, will this make me gain weight…it's simply how I eat.
Your results may vary. We’re all different. Someone else may feel really miserable and deprived without bread and pasta in their life. Its gotta work for you…
You don’t want to go through all the time, energy, and effort to lose weight to just gain it all back again because you couldn’t stick to the “diet”.
Now that's not to say that if you’re just starting a diet and it feels hard that you should automatically assume that it's not right for you and quit.
All change feels hard at first, so it might feel weird or difficult at first as you find your footing - that's totally natural.
Give it a few weeks and see how you feel. Are you feeling hungry? Deprived? Is it easy to fit into your life? Are you enjoying the food (this is really important for diet longevity!)? Are you getting the results you were hoping for (weight loss/feeling better/etc)?
Then you can evaluate how it's working for you. If at that point there are things that you like, but there are still things that feel hard; don’t be afraid to adjust things to make it work for you.
Try not to get so caught up in the “diet rules” …
No one wants to feel like they have to be on a diet for the rest of their life. Make it work for you so that you don’t feel like you have to bend your life around a set of diet rules somebody else made up!
So what it comes down to, is the best diet is the diet that doesn't feel like a diet and that works with your like and dislikes, your lifestyle, and gets you the results you want (weight loss or otherwise).
